2010-08-11 [wicked fae mage]: Colleges themselves offer say only Bachelors of the Arts degrees while Universities are a collection of colleges.

California University of Pennsylvania (where I'll be attending) has a college for several kinds of degrees. Bachelor of the Arts to Pre-Med, Bachelor of Science and so on. Each college serves as a way to focus a student based upon their majors and minors, though to have well-balanced students they require us to take at least one class per college in general education credits, 48 of our 120 credits required to graduate must be from level 300 or 400 classes.

Here we have many different faculties at a university, and you can get bachelor and master degrees within those faculties. Is colleges something like that? >____<

One for each type of degree, sciences (which include mathematics, science, computers, engineering etc), arts (English, art, criminal justice, political science etc) and I think 4 other colleges at the University...allowing actual degrees.

College like community college or a trade school are more limited to say Business or Culinary degrees. Or Lecordon Bleu (spelling) is a culinary only college. Art Institute of Pittsburgh (arts and CAD only), Douglas (cosmetology), ITT (computers and engineering)...but the degrees are different being certificates instead of actual degrees (which only say you went for 2 years at a specialty school instead of 4 years at a university and you took more classes there that relate to your field where college students are more well-rounded)

2010-08-13 [wicked fae mage]: Well, usually if you finish your degree and do well enough to get job offers or a job right out of school you can work up until your 6 month grace period before you have to start paying back the loans. But also remember that there are grants that do not have to be paid back and writing contests and such that give you X amount of money toward your college funds, too.

And the average university student here has about the same amount of debt too =/ $20,000 to 30,000 is fairly normal after 3 years =/ then add almost same amount for another 2 years for graduate students =/
(non-university higher education can cost up to $10,000 for one semester =/)

The grammar in German is HORRIBLE though :C
